Occasionally a horse comes along that...
I get a mental block on. In other words, regardless of what the horse does, I just have an uneasy feeling on backing him. Mine that Bird is just such a horse. I thought the Derby was about as freaky a performance that you would ever see and I really didnt expect much in the Preakness. I was dead WRONG! BUT I still have that same feeling for a bunch of reasons. I think we have seen this horses very best in two races that set up perfectly for him and I think the odds are against it happening a third time. I am looking for a horse that we have not seen the best of. A very highly regarded horse that ran a nice second to the probable derby favorite in Quality Road. The horse is Dunkirk and I am going to make a stand on him in the Belmont. Another horse that is just coming to hand is Charitable Man. There are several other horses in my top cluster of figures that I will hook up at big prices and yes I will use MTB, but NOT ON TOP. The pace scenario in the Belmont should be significantly different and contrary to what most people think.LONGER DISTANCES DO NOT FAVOR CLOSERS WHO JUST MISSED AT A SHORTER DISTANCE. I will go on the record with that statement. If Rachel was in the race she would be second choice with the thought that MTB would catch her this time. She would crush this field by 10 in a normal pace race.
